If you are ever passing through Mississauga during the spring, or summer time, then you should stop here. Brueckner Rhododendron Gardens is a waterfront park with many varieties of ornamental shrubs, trees, and flowers, that are in full bloom at the end of May.
Cold to extreme cold temperatures are normally keeping us inside, but sometimes we need to get out to see what magic they can do. Especially with waterfalls.
January and February are great months to go visiting the falls, as they offer astonishing views. The mist rising from the great falls are layering over and over on the surrounding features, creating a magical snowy winter wonderland. Although by the time we got to the Niagara Falls the sun decided to hide, we still had a great time seeing all the frozen features the waterfalls are so famous for.
What would you be up to on a Saturday morning with a clear sky, and a bright, beckoning sun? I’m telling you, my feet got itchy the next second I opened up the blinds. Quick decision, Emily Provincial Park was my choice. I have passed by few times this park in the past years, but never had the time to stop. Now it was the perfect time!
‘One morning a butterfly knocked on my window
and he told me the sun was calling me.
I was sleepy, and I didn’t believe him,
then I opened the window,
and I saw the sun was smiling at me,
and millions of butterflies fluttering their wings, eager to play.
It’s a miracle, isn’t it?’
Although many winter festivities have been cancelled due to the ongoing Codiv-19 pandemic in Ontario, I was pleasantly surprised to find that the Ice sculpture carving went through, as we found few amazing sculptures in a nearby community of Bridgenorth.

Even close to our home, or in a new country, I feel amazing since the moment I start planning one. This time the final destination was Manitoulin Island, with a couple of stops in Killarney Provincial Park, and French River Provincial Park.

Continue readingTurbulent waters in Ontario as well, as a stay-at-home order is in effect as of this morning. The Ontario government is requiring everyone to remain at home with exceptions for essential purposes, such as going to the grocery store or pharmacy, accessing health care services, for exercise or for essential work. So, no more travelling for at least 28 days☹ but we believe for the best!
We’ve been blessed with a sunny day last Saturday, and decided to take a country road and see what it brings. This time some waterfalls.

About 6 hours north from Toronto, located on a picturesque, southern side of Manitoulin Island, Providence Bay is the perfect place for a getaway. Looking upon Huron Lake, one of the Great Lakes of North America, the bay offers one of the longest sandy beaches I’ve ever seen in Ontario. Early natives, Ojibwe people called the place Bebikodawangog, which translates as ‘where the sands curve around the bay’.
First time we visited Manitoulin Island was back in 2017, when we did a road trip around Huron Lake, one of the five Great Lakes of North America. This time we decided to take more time and do a road trip around Manitoulin Island itself, searching for the island lighthouses.
Manitoulin Island is the world’s largest freshwater island, and it is considered by natives The Heart and Spirit of the Great Lakes of Canada. Home to three distinct cultures – First Nations, Francophone and Anglophone – this region has a diverse culture and a rich history. The island itself is considered sacred by the Native Anishinaabe people, who identify themselves as the People of the Three Fires.
With fond memories of our first visit to Manitoulin Island still fresh in our mind, we were not so lucky this time to book a reservation with MS Chi-Cheemaun Ferry Service, as due to Covid-19 restrictions, the passenger capacity could not exceed 50% of the vessel’s certified capacity hence we could not find spots available for our August trip.
